Welcome to my app. To be honest, I created it for an audience of one – myself (hopefully, more people find it compelling). The problem that I had is that I have 40K pictures in my Photos album and never really look through them. Scrolling just wasn’t working for me. So the idea I had was to place all of my images in a giant canvas, and then navigate this canvas the way you would navigate through Google Maps – with pinch and zoom.
PhotoGather is the app I built for this. It gives me tools to curate my photos into one large collage, and then it allows me to navigate through this to find the moments that I’m looking for. One interesting side effect is that often times, while looking for one particular photo, I’ll stumble by a completely different moment, and relive a trip that I hadn’t anticipated. I’m hoping that capturing this serendipity provides an useful alternative to the automated search and recommendations engines built into most photo browsers.
